Preparing Students
For Purposeful Lives
Portland Lutheran School has been educating students in Oregon and Southwest Washington for more than 100 years. From its early roots as an academy offering Lutheran education and training for pastors and teachers, PLS expanded into a private secondary and then elementary school providing broad-based, values-driven education for students from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.
Today, Portland Lutheran is an accredited pre-K through 12th grade private school on Portland’s east side that delivers a distinctly college preparatory curriculum in an environment that is at once community-minded and individually attentive. The majority of students reside east of the Willamette River in Multnomah and Clackamas Counties, and the balance hail from Washington County as well as Clark County, Washington.
Portland Lutheran’s teachers promote scholastic excellence, independent thinking and curiosity, community service and individual responsibility. The school proactively involves students in both academics and extracurricular activities, with opportunities designed to maximize each student’s interests and talents, from math and science, literature and fine arts, to athletics and community leadership. Inside and outside the classroom, the religious and ethnic diversity of the student body broadens perspective and deepens understanding.
