Burris Inks Ball Deal with University of Portland

May 8 2007

Scott Burris, a senior at Portland Lutheran School, has signed a national letter of intent with the University of Portland to play baseball with the Portland Pilots. The four-year full tuition scholarship could be worth more than $100,000 over the course of his college career.

Burris played three seasons at Portland Lutheran and was recognized as an all-league player in the 2A Northwest League every year. Portland Lutheran did not field a team this year, so Burris now pitches in the 6A Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) for Franklin High School. He is 4-2 for the Quakers this season and has helped the team reach the playoffs for the first time since 2001.

Burris will play in the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA) Senior All-Star series June 22-23.

Burris’s baseball achievements crown a series of athletic successes. He played an integral role on the cross country and basketball teams throughout his high school career Portland Lutheran. He was voted to the all-league first team by Northwest League basketball coaches this year as well as to the all-state third team by coaches statewide. In his junior year, he qualified for the cross country state meet after placing second at district.

“Most importantly, Scott is a well-rounded person,” Chad Rush, Portland Lutheran athletic director and high school vice principal, said. “He holds a 3.48 cumulative GPA, and he has performed community service both at home and abroad.”
