PLS Music Director Receives Award

January 11 2008

Walter Krueger, choir and band director at Portland Lutheran School and Director of Music at Trinity Lutheran Church, Portland, has achieved the status of Choirmaster through the American Guild of Organists (AGO). This certificate is part of a series of accolades offered through the AGO that provides opporhmities for musicians to constantly challenge themselves in their craft.

In testing for the AGO certificate one goes through inany elements of music knowledge and hours of work; from conducting three demanding choral works in front of live judges; knowledge of keyboard skills; plus three hours of written work.

Music trivia was tested from at least the past four centuries of music history. Thoughtful musical analysis of a difficult choral work by Verdi was expected. The opportunity to name-drop authors, translators, and composers of church music was also present.

Walter Krueger has been with Portland Lutheran School for eight years and is currently the High School Choir Director as well as Director of Bands for all levels. He also assists with music for weekly chapel services. He is a member of the National Council of the American Guild of Organists and represents the five Northwestern States (Alaska to Montana) as Regional Councillor.
